France deployed 20 Rafale and Mirage 2000 fighter jets over Libya on Saturday carrying out air strikes in Tripoli and Benghazi. It is the only nation to enforce the No-Fly Zone and hit Gaddafi ground forces.

  • The question of French engagement in Libya is not just for oil, but must think about all those civilians whose lives were saved. These strikes occurred when Khadafi tanks were even in the city. One more hour and the rebellion might be lost. I am personally pleased with these French strikes, for the moment french warplanes have the mission of cover Benghazi's sky, moreover french special forces are on the ground for coordinate the strikes. Tomorow french air force will extend her covering sector.

  • @eikkkN the CNT (libyan rebel) have already sold theire oil...and do you know what ? they sold it to an US Company !

  • @eikkkN I know that, i was just answering the people who said that french/british engagment was only for oil...

  • @bingofioul I don't care, we are in a capitalist society.

  • @boosra I think he doesn't meant "french don't care about foreign policy" but something more like "french election's result are almost no influenced by the foreign policy of their government".

  • @boosra Sorry but despite everything we may say, this kind of action has a minimal impact in the voting for presidential elections.

  • @eikkkN

I know that Sarkozy was very low in opinion polls, and unlikely to gain re-election.

I know that if he manages to get rid of "bad guy" Gaddafi, without taking many casualties, his polls will improve and he will be re-elected.

This is why politicians do these things.

They do not act from "humanitarian" concerns. And rightly so - if politicians made policy choices due to humanitarian concerns, you would be at war with 50 - 60 nations permanently, because suffering is everywhere.

  • @boosra Come in France, you will see. You are speaking about Sarkozy and the election whereas you don't even know anything on french society and its issues.

  • @eikkkN

"French do not care about foreign policy "

    Wow. Just wow.

That is the most profoundly stupid statement I have ever read. This is how invasions like Iraq are enabled.

    Deep ignorance.

  • @boosra I can assure you that the French do not care about foreign policy and this intervention in Libya has no impact on voting intentions for 2012.

  • This intervention is entirely because Sarkozy needs a short successful war against a high profile "bad guy" in order to have a chance at re election.

Any other interpretation is just embarrassingly naive.
