  • One thing that really pisses me off is the amount of noobs who say 'operating system' when they mean Gui/Desktop/Workbench. You don't operate the computer through the operating system, you operate it through the user interface. You can't see the operating system, Applications programmers operate it through the API. It's annoying because when most people are making arguments about the operating system they actually don't know anything about it and aren't even talking about it.

  • @vapourmile You knew what I meant and that's good enough for me. If it pisses you off, the problem is yours. Take a chill pill.

  • Oh, the nostalgia. DPaint, Pro Tracker, DOpus, MUI, Y(et)A(nother)M(ailer), IBrowse (which I think was better than Voyager)... I used A1200 as my main computer way longer than most amigaheads, way into the internet era, I think I bought my first PC around the year 2000 or so.

It was fun times, I knew the inner workings of Workbench much better than I still know Windows. I mostly learned English from UK Amiga mags and Lucasfilm & Sierra adventure games and not in school :D

  • @pundewhee It sounds like your history with the Amiga is very similar to mine. I didn't stop using mine as my main computer until years after they'd stopped making them.

I tried IBrowse and AWeb, but Voyager was the only one I had that was a full version and not a demo, so I stuck with that.

  • @SteveBenway Yeah, I'm beginning to see the similarities, just watching your Q&A's. I have a nasty flu and have been watching your vids the whole evening :) Nothing better to do, and the nostalgia trip seems to work better than ibuprofen lol.

  • @pundewhee I need to put some small print at the bottom of my channel "Contains pain killers and anti-inflammatories. Please consult your doctor if you exceed the stated dose." :D

  • @vapourmile So where's the distinction now with later versions of Windows where the OS and GUI are packaged under the same title?

Why are you so bothered about semantics? You're trying far too hard to impress people and just come off looking like a dick tbh...

  • @vapourmile Yeah, not worth getting bothered about. Many people don't know things about many things - just be glad you know the difference

  • @SteveBenway No. It's like listening to a presentation on engineering when you point at a car and repeatedly call it a motorcycle, your audience may well know what you're talking about, but you've lost them because you don't.

  • Great video, it's a shame you didn't show Sounstudio to it's full potential though, you can have upto 64 stereo tracks in Soundstudio, spent most of my time using this program on the amiga lol

  • My comment was posted under the wrong video of yours... I have moved this to the right one... If I had been using an Amiga, wouldn't have happened :-D
