Lush Life - jazz piano solo

This wonderful Billy Strayhorn tune is usually played in a slow, melancholy way with an emphasis on the chromatic structure of the melody and chord changes. I wanted to do a more energetic version and focus on the syncopation of this piece as much or more than the chromatic structure. Chick Corea did an up tempo verson on his Expressions CD. I used his version as inspiration, but I didn't copy any of his licks in order to keep it original. I think it is an extra challenge to do something different with classic tunes that are so well known, but this was fun to record.

@spike4379 This guy is brilliant. He has creativity and he has a very particular way to play. His improv are excellent. Perhaps you are write. Valentina Lisitsa is an excellent interpreter but she is just a interpreter. But her way to play is not boring. She is a genius when the question is to play like the composer intentions. Something that I believe the guy on this video can't do like her. By the way, I think he is more musical then she. The music comes from his handa very naturality.

@petrusmalk il take a contempory pianist over a boring classical anyday..... this guys perfect. plus dont compare musicians against eachother.. especially contemp V classical...... you ask a classical person to improv as good as a contemp player, and u ask a contem to play a concerto. see? but id rather be able to improv than play classical stuff
