Screener for Why Man Creates: Man - The Measure of all Things distributed by Contemporary Arts Media http://www.artfilms.com.au
Using great works of art and selected passages from literature, this program helps students understand why the history of art is the history of civilization. Students trace people's continuing efforts to express themselves and their concepts of God, life, beauty, joy, order and identity through art. Based on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Centennial Exhibition, "Masterpieces of Fifty Centuries." (59 min. 3 parts)

God/the gods are created to explain what, at the time, is unexplainable by research and observation. As time went on the number of gods required to explain the unexplainable decreased because man discovered the reasons for some natural events. As man continues to discover new things and explanation to "mysterious" events, God will become less important to society overall. However God will remain necessary to explain the soul before, during, and after life.
