Zelda Heart Cookies
Difficulty: Easy
Inspired by The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short, these crispy cookies have a distinct yet subtle vanilla flavour, and a sweet lemony icing that should appeal young as well as old.
This is what you need:
5 dl or 1 and 5/6 cups flour
1/2 dl or ¼ cup of sugar
200 g or ¾ cup of butter ( a bit more than that actually, cupwise )
1 egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla powder
Pink Food coloring
Frosting
1 egg white
2 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon light corn syrup
Red food coloring
How its done:
This is based on a classic cookie in Sweden, One of the reasons for it being a classic, is simply due to the fact that its really easy to make.
Simply mix the sugar and butter together with the flour. Then add an egg. The egg is in there so that it will be easier to flatten it out later out. The "original" recipe for this cake makes for a rather brittle cake, but the egg changes all of that. Then, add the vanilla powder. You can of course substitute this for the same amount of vanilla flavored sugar, but you wont get the same flavor.
Take a breadbin, and flatten the dough to to a thickness of your own choice. Not too thick of course, but its really up to you! I recommend about half a centimeter, which is about a fifth of an inch.
Bake in the oven for 8 to 9 minutes, at 175 C or 350 F. Let the cookies cool off.
And now for the frosting.
Simply mix the egg white with the powdered sugar, lemon juice and corn syrup. Thats really all you have to do! Then poor the icing into two separate bowls, color on of them pink, and the other one red.
Decorate! Then, let the icing set for about 40 minutes to an hour, and then youre done!
Very nice bro!! I bet it's rejuvenates my health meter after taking a bite! Like I said before, once I get my own kitchen (with an oven), I'll definitely try all of your recipes here!
