Water conservation is tricky. Signs and shocking statistics do little to change behavior. Enter FUN. Imagine a virtual fish tank behind the water faucet. The water level is connected to how much water is being used. If you leave the water running while brushing your teeth or lathering your hands, the water level lowers. You need to be smart about how much water you use so you leave water for the fish to live. The water slowly refills as the faucet is off. This fun and memorable connection will remind people to conserve water wherever they are, not just while in front of the animation! Remember... This is just a thought experiment. Brainstorming welcome. More to get people thinking than anything else.

  • bad idea....i think everyone wants to see the fish dead...

  • @leandrojetta Not sure bad idea is the thing to call it. I agree with you on the other part... I think alot of people would leave the water running to see the fish dead. I think that is fine though. Here's why... in my own opinion, I think that after that one person leaves the water on to see the fish dead, when they are at another sink, etc, they will have a recollection of that dead fish. This is a reminder to conserve. I think the lesson would stick. If a few fish die... so be it.

  • Better is it to connect the fosset to a radio or televion that shuts off when you turn on the water. As people would want to hear music, see a funny clip, they have to turn the water off. Thus consuming less.

This uses electricity, so it isn't perfect, but the basic idea is there.

  • @Melopeed That's an interesting idea!

  • Alltough it's quite a good idea, some people might want to see Mr. Goldfish die and then they leave the water floating.

  • @battlefield2usmc0 I'd want to see the Goldfish meet his end a few times, but then I'd probably think more toward conservation... maybe others would think that way too?

  • @Melopeed That is a good idea, maybe a disturbing noise while the water is running...

  • think its creative but face this if you are going to be using animation through screening it wastes energy plus most people would want to see the fish dead so not only is energy wasted WATER IS BEING WASTED. Not only that some people don't even notice a stupid fish and they don't even know the INSTRUCTIONS so that just now increases it. so now its in one place or school so that means MORE WATER IS BEING WASTED so like about like %3 percent is even giving a shit and %97 does not. so there it is.

  • Dont we all have the sensor washing tap nowadays?

  • so... the ideea is to remain dirty and dont wash your hands and teeth

  • @Melopeed I think that's a great idea!

  • wait till a little girl walks in there and sees a dead fish again BAD IDEA!!!!!

  • Yeah lets kill Mr. Goldfish!!!

    BAD IDEA!!!!!

  • @starbshero it's a virtual fish, just get displayed on a screen, no real fish (using real fishes would be complete nightmare in about 50 different ways)

  • @penitent2401 if you look at the comments here, you'll find my statistics are about right

  • @IRsuperman are you still in junior school or just living somewhere rather isolated from cities and don't use the internet much?

for every 1 person who it works on, 9 will want to see the fish dies and that will have no effect on them other remembering a funny thing they want to see again. and 90 others who wouldn't care (50 of those 90 won't even noticed the fish being there).

i'm a part of Engineers Without Borders at my university, done some fundraising and awareness, this is the real world.
