A Thousand Hand Guanyin

This is an incredible dance clip of 21 dancers. All 21 of them are deaf. They were the opening act at the closing of the 1004 olympic games in Athens.

This video was recorded in Beijing at the Spring 2005 Festival.

This vision of beauty is astonishing. It goes beyond anything the west has ever dreamed. The Goddess of Mercy came from the original Buddhist archetype of Compassion. And yet originally, Avolokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion, was male. The Chinese were not able to understand that a man might be compassionate. For them Compassion must be a female thing. In fact, the feminine aspect of Compassion is the active Tara, sister of Avalokiteshvara --- born from his tears.
