4771 on its final runs, Firstly coasting over Goathland summit but on its second run going flat out past Abbots House sounding awesome, Certainly going out in style, Hopefully not out of action for too long

  • @NJPurling The cylinder block was badly cracked (I saw it). I think they're replacing it with a new one of different type (that was originally replaced on BR V1s due to the single block cracking). I'm not entirely sure of the details, but 4771 will steam again.

  • I understood there were major problems with the cylinder block, but not the specific nature of those problems.

    If the block isn't too badly cracked can it be machined and fitted with liners in the cylinders & valve chests?

    Depends on how bad the boiler is, before you do all that.
