A video of the ulo chair. The chair was designed as part of a project titled "Compact Living for Sustainability".

It was designed specifically for sustainable compact living habitats.

The ulo chair was designed by me, Ian Walton for the final Degree Project in the BDes Industrial Design at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland.

  • The chair shown is a representative model and not a working prototype. Yes, following consultations with a structural engineer, a person can sit on the chair without it collapsing.

  • Why is that no one dares to sit on the chair?

  • would be interesting what happened if you pressed that lever while someone was sitting on it!

  • that is beautiful how the cross support acts as the locking mech

    brilliant design

  • I thought the chairs were for sitting not just walking around them????

  • HE KEEPS WALKING AWAY!

  • That chair would last less then a day in America where 61% of the population is over weight.

  • Just kidding, that sounded funny though, in a strange way :p

  • Chances are you wont stand to see the ground again. You'll wake up in a hospital still on your back. And days will go by as you think of that moment until you finally close your eyes to never open them again.

They know it, that's why they didn't take the chance!

"Thou who sits on thy seat shall halt with prosper."

  • @exemytheia That's exactly what i was wondering xD

  • Love it! That's a great mechanical principal.

Sry for you guys, there're many stupid noobs, who don't know how design process works... I'm also tired of having to justify any design model and why it's not functional.

    Guys, it's a model.. NOT a PROTOTYPE!

  • @embryodesign still could be a great prank, sit down- *oof*
