Obviously, from watching the next video to this it didn't work. Your cut was to shallow. You need to make a ring cut down to the xylem. Another ring cut 2 inches down or up from the first. One final vertical cut connecting the 2 ring cuts. Peel the phloem (bark) and scratch off the cambium. NOW you can add the sphagnum moss and cover with aluminum foil. That will work. Oh yeah after you finish and get your bonsai going, destroy that nasty tree ;)

I am wanting to try this with my apple tree to try to make a Bonsai from it. I thought that you needed to remove a ring of bark all the way around the limb. Did this work for you with just that small amount of bark removed? Also, did you use any Root hormone on it? I haven't watched your other video yet so I may get some questions answered on it.

thank you for making the video... ill try that... i have a beutiful japanese cutleaf maple (crimson queen) in my front yard and i want a japanese maple bonsai... ill try this
I just checked mine today for the first time. One had water in the bottom of the plastic, and the other seemed moist. If I see them drying out, I will just inject some water into the sphagnum moss. Looking for roots to show up. Too soon now, but maybe in a couple of weeks.

do you have to water it?

There was water in both plastic retainers,, but as I wasn't sure if the moss itself was moist enought (it felt decent). So I injected water with an hyperdermic needle into both. I should be opening them soon to see if anything has developed.
