This man's name is Mark Tatum. He eventually had a face proshesis, but sadly passed away in 2005 (cause not known). The fungus is called Rhinocerebral mucormycosis, a rare opportunistic infection affecting immunocompromised patients.
Now you know (the marvel of Google).
