Police called to disturbance at CHS

CARLSBAD — Police were called and several students were handcuffed and briefly detained following a protest that school officials said became disruptive Thursday morning at Carlsbad High School.
Although there were no arrests, as many as 11 students were suspended for two days, school officials said.
The incident began when a group of about 80 students staged a sit-in in the corridor of the main building on campus with hopes of convincing school officials to permanently allow students to wear "in memoriam" shirts to school, said CHS Principal Ray Burrola. The shirts have been created to honor the memory of recently slain student Joseph Garcia, and other recently deceased students.

  • well everybodys opinion is their own. my cousin waz killed we have shirts they look nice.

  • ive had a few family members die and we never make t shirts for them...in my opinion, they're trashy...you don't need a shirt for someones memory to be kept alive...

  • i went to school at chs in 1985-87 sounds like not much has changed.. closed minded ....

  • this was so stupid!

my bro said it was funny as hell tho!

  • ...you do know they weren't actually banned, right? You were allowed to wear them that day...

  • the principal mr burrola said that if we wore them then kids would kill themselves we protested cuz he will ban the shirts anyway so we protested and its not over

  • they wouldnt let kids wear 'In memory t-shirts' by the first day they suspended almost half the school, cause a kid was killed with the month
