the first scene is a sequence from the chapter "theophanes the greek". kirill is leaving the monastery for the secular world, and his dog runs after him. he kills it.

the second sequence is from the chapter "the silence". a group of tatars stops at the monastery and make their dogs fight.

Dog in a scene 1 was given clonidine, that's why it looks like dying with slight convulsion. It survived of course as it was given by pro-vet.

In a scene two - these are combat dogs brought from market circus. Both survived without serious injuries as they were instructed. After succesful role in a movie one flew to space while the other one established business consulting company.
