Obviously, an Energy-modeler should already be familiar with modeling a typical building in his or her preferred software package, but LEED presents an abundance of new challenges
Before we start
Let's look at the software requirements and determine if you are using qualified software
Keep in mind, that most big name software packages are LEED approved
But if you do not know, Consult Standard 90.1 Appendix G section 2.2. It lists required program capabilities such as modeling 8760 hours per year, 10 thermal zones, and also more specific requirements like economizer with integrated control
The surest way to tell if a software package qualifies is if it tested in accordance with ASHRAE STD 140, a standard to determine an energy modeling software's accuracy. The software provider should be able to provide you with more information.
