Teen Homeschooler Jailed Under Patriot Act

NORTH CAROLINA: Sixteen-year-old Ashton Lundeby's bedroom in his mother's Granville County home is nothing, if not patriotic. Images of American flags are everywhere on the bed, on the floor, on the wall.

But according to the United States government, the tenth-grade home-schooler is being held on a criminal complaint that he made a bomb threat from his home on the night of Feb. 15.

According to Annette Lundeby of Oxford, N.C., armed FBI agents and local police stormed her home around 10 p.m. on March 5, looking for her son, Ashton. The officers presented a federal search warrant and seized the tenth-grader's computer, cell phone and bank statements.

1/2012 UPDATE: All the complaints about the Patriot Act are completely justified. BUT.

Turns out the little darling was actively calling in bomb hoaxes with an network of Internet friends. Ended up in jail for a couple years, which may indeed be about right in terms of punishment.

Seriously, I'm rather sure that if you have US citizenship, then you're protected under all the amendments, specifically those 4-9. This is unconstitutional, really. If you're arrested without being read your Miranda Rights, then your arrest should be void.
