  • thats Mick Taylor playing the slide parts...good lesson nonetheless

  • @cgravier The only ones playing on this were Keith, Jimmy Miller, and Bobby Keys. Besides, if Mick T were playing the slide part, it would be far less rudimentary than this.

oh did not know that...I was going by the 72 live version of this...My favorite Keef song this is.

  • @cgravier In all the 72 live versions I've seen/heard, Keith is playing the slide part and Mick T. does a solo in standard tuning (wildly overplaying, as he normally did onstage, in my opinion) without a slide. Check out the Ladies and Gentlemen clip on YouTube.

  • I honestly have a guitar that i only use to play gimme shelter. Its in open e so whenever i want to play gimme shelter, i just haul it out.

  • @brandonlace That's OK, you just gotta learn a few more open E tunes!

  • Simple solution: just get another guitar and keep it tuned to open G permanently.

Then get one tuned to DADGAD, and then another one tuned to...

  • And live with just one guitar? Never! :)

  • Thank you so much for this lesson. Helped me a lot. I usually play with a Gibson SG (mostly Led Zeppelin and that kind of sound), but I also have a Fender Jazzmaster and I guess I'll keep it in open G tuning (it's been a long time since I don't use it, so I guess it's a good way of keeping it alive!). I'm not a big Fender guitars fan, but I totally love Keith's songs. Thanks again!

  • THANKS...Job Well-Done...Learned it within minutes!!!

  • Hey it would be sweet if you could tell us the amp settings you use on these lessons, you always have it naild. and we would love to get the sweet tones!

  • @privettricker I acquiesce. Open G is the correct way. Open E will work but it isn't quite the same.
