This will probably be my last training VLOG entry before the 2012 US Olympic Marathon Trials. We are heading directly from Florida to Houston in just under 2.5 weeks now and it is time to get pumped!

  • Great job, 43rd overall. You are the man!

  • @cicirunner thanks! I was hoping for a top 20 finish and a PR, but I'll take 43rd.

  • I know the feeling of fighting off the urges of unhealthy foods. Obviously I'm not an elite athlete so I can't say anything with much weight behind it, but quality food does help - I keep that in mind, and when I run I see it, so the temptation isn't as hard. The qualifiers are coming up, and I'm sure all your fans, including myself, are almost as excited as you guys must be. Keep up the good work!

On the off chance I might get a reply, what does a taper look like for an elite marathoner?

  • @ytblvd thanks for the feedback and support! We are very excited to be running in the trials and seeing what we can do. Everyone on the team has a little bit of a taper, but my mileage drops like this 130 (last week), this week 120 miles, then about 110 then race week its around 85 miles (going into the marathon). We still have a couple marathon pace workouts to do, and a 20 mile long run about a week out. However, the last week is all pretty much easy, comfortable running.

  • You worked really hard on this didn't you? Nice job. I have that struggle everyday. Cookies before running doesn't go well, so that is what keeps me away from them. Beer on the other hand...

  • @crimsonmonieful ha ha yeah, I did. I guess its really not "uncut" footage as I edited the film a ton for those clones. Wish I had set up some extra lights to improve the image quality though. I'm more for cookies and beer after running (although cookies and coffee before a second, short afternoon run is always a treat!) Thanks for the support.

  • Thanks for the video blog. I have been following it diligently. I appreciate the glimpse of what it takes to train for the OTs. Good luck! Hope all of the Hanson's PR in Houston.

  • Goodluck mate!

  • @ninjaguy123 reason: coach makes us! it is something I had to get used to as in college it was the opposite (we'd do a short run in the morning before classes and then a longer afternoon run at practice). Doing fast track workouts on cold mornings in Michigan is probably the biggest shock to the system. Most races are in the morning so we get used to that.

  • Good luck @ preventing yourself from eating those goodies lol

You guys seam to be ready for your trials.

BTW, is there a reason for running more miles in the morning than in the afternoon?

What's your afternoon pace or easy pace ?
