Of course everybody knows that the better thing to do is to "go find the murderer".

But what if the scenario is that "it is not known who killed him" (Deut 21.1)? They don't have CSI back then you know? Even with CSI today we still have so many unsolved murder cases.

So, since the guy is already dead and we can't get the culprit, the next thing to do is to clear the other people of the guilt of innocent bloodshed, so that no curse will fall on them.

Nothing wrong here.

@ArdenKuan - So let me get this straight, ArdenKuan ... the people, in order to avoid a CURSE, have to murder a cow then pray to God over its steaming corpse to tell Him that they didn't kill the guy, or God, who sees and knows all anyway, WILL curse them for something he already knows they didn't do.

Did I get that right?

Just to add: "Murder" by definition only applies to the killing of a fellow human being. So, we don't really murder a cow.

But for cow-lovers like you who think where is the justice to the innocent cow.. well, in God's estimation, human beings are at the top of his priorities. He wouldn't spare the cow if it means it can save us from destruction.

This God did not spare his own Son either.. that's how much God loves us.

But after you're done laughing, maybe you can consider (seriously!) whether to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior.

Especially when each and every one of your objections against the bible had been soundly answered - there is really nothing wrong with the bible.

I mean, salvation is free and it is just a prayer away. There should be nothing hindering you..

I'm not sure whether you should be disappointed with your own sense of justice or that of us christians. Let's go through:

1. I said when an innocent life is taken, there needs to be recompense - by the shedding of blood of the guilty. You said, "a life lost cannot be replaced", therefore no need to shed further blood.

2. I said when an innocent life is taken, judgment needs to be meted. You said, it's just "petty vengeance".

Just to explain some misunderstanding you may have.

When God created man, man wasn't "predisposed" to break God's laws.

Adam used his freewill choice to reject God, and fell into sin. From then on, man became more and more corrupt and only then began to develop this so-called "predisposition".

Pls understand that God did not send satan. Satan was an enemy. God is on our side, satan is on the other side.

Satan is bitter against God, but is powerless to do anything against God directly. The only way to get at God was to hit the ones God loves deeply.. us humans. He knows he's going to hell, so he tries to get as many people as possible to join him there, just to get at God.

Satan will use every opportunity he can get to pounce on us.

Again, this ritual is provided as the "next best solution". If someone would seek God, then God would tell who did it, and they would catch the culprit and settle the issue.

If we can't get the culprit, the next best thing to do is to get the "innocent" people absolved from the curse.

I'd like to point out that this doesn't mean the culprit will get away with it scot free, bcos the blood was also on his hands. Judgment will catch up with him.

God does speak, and in instances has led to the catching of the culprit. The bible has some examples of it (as in the story of the Gibeonites).

However, things like this need specific revelations. What we call "word of knowledge" (one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit explained in 1 Corinthians 12). God does speak, but is there anybody who would listen? Is there anyone who would seek God for the answer?

It's like God holding an umbrella and tells us to come under it. Only those who chose to come under God's protection are protected. God's protection is always there 24/7. Some believers are ignorant of God's protection, while some wilfully chose to stray. God won't force his protection on us, and we can't blame God if something bad happens if we are ignorant or chose to disobey.

The non-believers, we don't need to say much. They rejected God totally.

You have raised a few points, and I'd like to address them one by one.

God does protect His people, and it has happened so many times - some examples are recorded in the bible, and there are many real life stories that can testify.

However, God does not protect every one. Here is how it works. God has given every human a "freewill choice" - believers or non-believers. Even believers can choose to disobey God's commands at times.

It is not a case where God cursed them although they were innocent. They were cursed bcos of the travesty commited, God merely told them that they were cursed bcos of the travesty, and God taught them how to break that curse.

Put things into the right perspective, and you see who was actually the good guy and who's the bad guy.

Just think: If God wanted to simply curse the people, why would he want to waste time to explain how to break the curse?
