In early 2008, when HELLRAISER Make-up Effects Designer Gary J. Tunnicliffe heard the rumors of a HELLRAISER Remake and a radically different Pinhead, he was faced with a choice...

Stand by and let the iconic image of Pinhead be redesigned by others, or have a crack at it himself...

Project: Angel Redesigning an Icon, is the end result of this decission.

This video examines the thoughts and ideas behind redesigning the iconic look of Pinhead. Hopefully it will give a little insight into the reasons behind the design and the artist feelings about changing a make-up we truely feel is perfect the way it is...

(This concept was created during the time when Alex Bustillo was set to direct and was partly based on concepts relating to his version of the film. This has nothing to do with the current director's version.)

  • I've seen every hellraiser perhaps 20 times each of the goodones and maybe thre or four times of the not so good. This pinhead will obviously never replace the original. This is why they refer to him as an icon people but if I had to choose anyone to make a new render of pinhead it would be this man and this design. Think of todays crowd of movie goers. The horror today is about smashmouth intensity so this can be a step beck with a step forward. The blood and gore plus a good actor=new pinhead.

  • I rather like the asymmetry of the new design. But I liked the clean lines of the original, all the blood and scabs they threw onto this design is distracting. The mutilations of the cenobites are supposed to be artistically rendered, with precision more reminiscent of Picasso and Kahlo and less Jackson Pollock. Looks messy.

  • oh, Pinhead, what have they done to you buddy?!!

  • Gary seemed truly upset about making it,they should have kept the grid...

they are trying to hard to attract 12 year olds to the Hellraiser movies.

i still like the leather and the symmetrical grid.

  • Tunnicliffe is a legend.

  • NON è PINHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you have to rationalize why a new version of an icon is better, you just prove you don't understand why the first one is iconic to begin with. Norman Bates would be more realistic if he were big... Freddie would be more dangerous if his glove had a chainsaw... Baseball's more popular than hockey so Jason should wear a catcher's mask...Jaws would be more badass if we saw him more and he had a frickin' laser beam on his head...

  • So juvenile.

  • im not a die hard hellraiser fan but if they started with this i would be

  • See I like it, a lot of you fans who disagree should try and do your own version, I mean this is Not Doug Bradley pinhead but it's a nice- I think semi-ancient roman like Pinhead, after all how many chatterers where there?
