The Western Rail Corridor was closed in various stages throughout the last fifty years. After the demonstrable success of the Ennis to Limerick line, work is underway, as part of Transport 21, to reopen sections of the line. The need for a comprehensive railway system is an essential part of a national, sustainable transport policy.

Our full length programme examining this issue will follow Duncan as he travels up the Western Rail Corridor, from Limerick to Sligo, and on to Donegal, as he discovers the potential benefits of the service from social, economic and environmental perspectives. As he travels north he will meet the people who will be using the service and witnessing the impact of road centric transport planning.
