Approximately 45 minutes after clearing an early morning car fire the ladder was back on the street headed to Hughestown on a working structure fire. Chief 143 was first to arrive reporting a 2 story double block vacant home with smoke showing. The 143 engine arrived next establishing a primary water supply and started stretching the attack lines along with 126 engine co. Ladder 963 was next in and went right to work. The inside team forced entry and started a primary search while the outside team laddered and started ventilating the structure. While engine crews where attempting to make an attack, reports where transmitted that there were holes in the floor and stairways where missing. With that report, 143 command evacuated the building and operations went defensively. Once the fire was knocked down, crews reentered the structure to overhaul and extinguish the hot spots. Companies where on scene for approximately 4 hours before returning to service.

  • @firkillr1......you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Calling him a typical volunteer! well dickhead, I was for 35 years and I'll argue this fire with you right here. 1-did you roll on this fire?...2-do you know what the first arriving Chief or firefighters were told about interior conditions?...3-can you see all parts of the structure in this video? If you can't answer yes to these 3 questions then shut up! Would you like me to continue?

  • is that really the best spot for that ladder

  • I totally agree with you. I honestly couldnt have said it better myself. You always check for scene safety, you learn that before anything else basically. And if no one is inside you usually dont make a interior attack on a vacant house.

  • I don't care if someone is volunteer or not. they said "There are holes in the floor and parts of stairways missing" YOUR STUPID SHUT UP! Obviously you have no idea what its like to be a fireman because if you did you would realize oh hey unsafe conditions my safety is number one. So in this case "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -Adam Savage

  • and depending on the situation and conditions that can be done from the outside. the department i was part of had no injuries and no loss of life with minimal loss of property for 10 years with this policy. it works for some and doesn't work for others.

  • You obviously have no idea what it is to be a Fireman! Your reply sounds just like a typical volunteer! Let me school you right quick...An aggressive interior attack both saves lives and property. Properly placed attack lines to extinguish structure fires from the uninvolved to the involved is how it is done!

  • If you listen at 1:38 you can hear someone say that the neighbors report no stairs or floor in the back part of the house. It does not appear that the house was occupied so you have to weigh the danger of an interior attack vs. protecting exposures and loss mitigation.

  • It's a lot safer to fight a wood framed structure fire from the outside because of the chance of the floor giving away. I've done some volunteer fire fighting and the only buildings we ever entered were those that had a floor that wasn't going to fall out. If someone falls through a floor into a basement, the water could easily drown them plus there would be injuries from the fall itself. It's a safety issue that anyone in a burning building thinks about.

  • Sooooo..... Are you going to answer my question?
