I'd recommend highly that people read Bob Barr's book "The Meaning of Is" (2004), particularly the third chapter, where Congressman Barr describes the significant attacks on civil liberties that occurred under the Clinton presidency and what he, Barr, did to fight them. There's a paragraph noting how he came to increasingly ally himself with the Libertarian Party as a result. Though the LP of Georgia fought him in 2002, helping defeat him then, he now has won their trust, from what I hear.
