August 4 2008

We had a chase on Aug 4 ahead of a derecho that was producing strong rotation heading into the town of Kingston, Illinois in Northern Dekalb County. Once the storm pushed through we went north and watched the lightning show.

This storm was the same one that eventually spawned funnel clouds, and tornadoes in the Chicago Metro area as well as Northern Indiana later on as it pushed across Northern Illinois.

  • @scursion07 Now that is the funniest thing i've read in a long time! hahaha

  • Holy crap! The same guy does our wether radio here in Alabama. Small world...

  • i remember this, cuz it was my wifes and my first wedding anniversary and we at the time were living at great oaks and it got nasty out, bt not as bad as where this was filmed

  • I think this years gunna be a good year for strong celled storms due to all the snow we got and the types of blizzards. I live in boone so its pretty much next door if you guys still chase itll be good this year.

  • i love how people think were crazy for doing this kinda stuff. haha. Spotter/Chaser forever!

  • @momotous I live in ogle county too I live near leaf river. are you close to byron or where?

  • I live about 30 miles west of kingston and we had the same storm go through our town and the weather channel called it a microburst. I didnt believe them because we had trees that were twisted and pulled out of the ground, but some of them werent even touched. I know it was more than a microburst. And the storm looked exactly like yours does in the vid

  • That storm gave me a full-blown panic attack. You guys are crazy for being out in the middle of that!

  • I am so lucky where I live! We dont have any tsunami or tornado warnings in my city. Probably because of the Cascades and the Rockys.
