Part two of the promotional/exhibition video I created for "LitGraphic: The World of the Graphic Novel" on view at Norman Rockwell Museum (video ©2007 Norman Rockwell Museum. All rights reserved).
This segment features interviews with two very talented graphic novelists, Marc Hempel (co-creator of "Breathtaker" and artist for "The Sandman") and Mark Kalesniko (creator of "Alex" and "Mail Order Bride"). These are two of my favorite artists in the exhibition, and so this segment is one of my favorites from the video. The music is courtesy of Hempel's band The Wires, and the artist Lauren Weinstein (featured in the next installment).
I was particularly impressed to see Hempel create the "old man" sketch out of nothing; when I do these exhibition videos, I always try to get footage of the artists drawing... it's fascinating! Kalesniko was also entertaining- the beat-up car he is sketching in his backyard will feature prominently in his upcoming graphic novel.
I love that comic he drew called Gregory.
