A natural history of wolves, a story of adventure... in Transylvania. A preview of Alan Sparks' book about the lives of wolves, of the researchers who study them, and of the rural people who share their territory in a remote mountainous region of Eastern Europe - an exotic land that has remained largely untouched by modern trends and undiscovered by western travelers.

  • “Exotic” can have varying connotations. It can mean “unnatural”, but it can also mean “unfamiliar”. My use of the term is meant to convey the idea that the region is at once beautiful, fascinating, and unfamiliar (at least to most people living in North America) while also containing a significant amount of wildland.

  • Romania is not exotic. Romania is natural. Hawaii, India and all those Asian countries are exotic.
