“Exotic” can have varying connotations. It can mean “unnatural”, but it can also mean “unfamiliar”. My use of the term is meant to convey the idea that the region is at once beautiful, fascinating, and unfamiliar (at least to most people living in North America) while also containing a significant amount of wildland.
