How to paint your car and rims for a little over $50

-Step one decide you have a car you want to risk painting
i wouldn't paint anything made in the last five years unless its made by ford
- Step two
clean the car completely, i started out the project actually wanting to just clean my car and make it look nice. DO NOT WAX i did and it just makes it harder to prep
-Step three
prep the car, mask off the lights or remove them, paint will still get on places and you can remove it later with crazy methods but try to avoid spilling to much. sand your car good, you dont have to get it to the metal, in fact you shouldnt just get rid of the sheen.
how i wet sanded is using a sanding brick and 600 grit sanding paper and using a spray bottle i wetted the area and sanded. i didnt go all out maybe i should of, if i did it again id use 400 grit
-step four
paint, use performance rustoluem protective enamel. this has been done by many people and this is the brand that works. mix this with mineral spirits. you will have to find a ratio that works for you, at first i used 1:1 but then went to like 60:40. use a high density foam roller. roller on your first coat, mine didnt look pretty
-step 5
wet sand the whole car after the paint dries, i used 600 grit again. the paint dries in about 6 hours.
-step 6
continue this process until you have about four coats and then keep painting but wet sand with 1500 grit
-step 7
some areas are hard to paint so u need a little foam brush and it will take a long time, if u have a spoiler good luck.
-step 8
after your finished polish with turtle wax polishing compound or better if u have it use and electric buffer.

Wheels
wheels are easy compared to painting the car
-clean the rims
-jack up the car
-remove wheel and mask with newspaper (use the thin edge of ur jack to wedge the paper between the rim and tire
-spray it with rustoleum engine block primer and wait 15 minutes
-spray it with rustoleum high gloss black ENGINE block paint i used 2 coats
- wait and hour and put it back on
- in the mean time i cleaned and sprayed my calipers yellow

The paint job was pretty bad, and that's just honesty, I'm not knocking you. You can do a really good paint job for less than $100 if you're careful with the spending.

Good on you for trying something new - next time just do yourself a favor and take more time. Prep is the key. I'd say try your hand at a little body work, bring the body back to life, even if that means driving the car for a few weeks with primer and body filler. Thin filler, slow work, and then careful painting, it'll look good
