I've always found when not using hand protection running your hands under extremely cold water before reaching in an enclosure helps deter the snakes also has always worked great for me because it decreases your odds of being misinterpreted as a feeder. I do it every time I have my hands in an enclosure whether to clean in it, refresh it and the water or to take them out.

5*s Rose is a gorgeous Boa. I really don't like hooks myself and that's why I spend so much time almost daily touching the snakes and working with mine. I prefer using rolled newspaper to kill a feeding response. A lot of my friends laugh because I use a plastic dust pan to hold between me and the snakes as a means to block any possible strike. A Lot of a snakes reaction to their handler has everything to do with the handlers approach and state of mind at the time.

Good Video
I usually use anything to block the face kinda like Jeff does with styrofoam stick.
Thanks for sharing!

Welders gloves are great! They are nice and thick and very hard to puncture.. I used them on a pretty large female red blood who was aggressive.. She hit my hands with them on and i only felt the impact, the teeth didn't nearly get through... You can pick up welders gloves at your local ACE Hardware, Home Depot, or Lowes.. Any place that should sell welding equipment will carry them for around $10-15.. Sometimes a little more..
Cool Video & Beautiful Boa! 5*****

Welders Gauntlet Gloves are much cheaper and can handle hard hits from very large BCI/BCC
"Hooks" will always be a vital tool for handleing/working constrictors of every size.
That tub handling technique would have gotten you bit here.
You were wide open for a good shot from an aggressive boa.
Good looking animals, but the vid needs redone.

I've never used welders gloves but I'm not sure they allow for the dexterity that these gloves allow for. Do they?
As for the technique I was using, I'm not overly concerned with the boas in this video. They have not displayed aggressive tendencies. If they were aggressive, I would have used both gloves and been much more careful.
Thanks for the feedback. Can you give me some insignt into the welders gloves?

Great video jb! Rose is SOO hot! I use gloves when handling my boas as well, granted they're just my snowboarding gloves, but I think the absense of heat touching them also helps keep them calm. I find they react much less to when the glove touches them first vs. a warm palm.... Thanks for posting and show off more of the boa room next time!

Sadly, that's all there is to the boa room! lol I have a VERY small collection. 11 animals total. I have that stack of cages, and the rack. That's it. If I'm lucky enough to produce any babies this year, the money will go to buying another stack of cages and I'll be done :)
Thanks for the kudos Marshall!
