@lollipopfop I'm telling you, it is not uncommon for one to court one, homely girl, to build one's confidence then to later have other women be attracted to the confident (not so much to lose) guy who will trade up to another woman. Happens all the time.

Of course they discuss trigonometry when I'm procrastinating and not studying for my Trig final...

The height of the top of the oak is equal to the distance you would need to stand and have the top of the oak at 45'. A protractor, a plumb line and a way to measure the horizontal distance are all you need in the way of surveying equipment. If you know the distance from the oak to the elm, you can then construct a triangle on paper to obtain the starting point. As a former school teacher, the butler will have done a similar exercise countless times in class.

@lollipopfop Well, if the intention was theft from the outset, he'd want someone who was easy to manipulate, could pose no threat as a credible witness should he be put on trial and could themselves be made to look like a thief. It would be easy to cast suspicion on the crazy woman. Much harder to guarantee passing the blame onto someone who was pretty and popular.

I love Holmes's face at 8:05.
"Holmes, I don't quite follow this."
"Aaah, splendid!"
For some odd reason, that reminded me of a science teacher who, when you said, "I don't understand this," she would reply, "Ooh, but you do."
