My favorite cliffhanger is from Night in Terror Tower: "Little did I realize that was the last picture of Eddie I would ever take."
Which turns out to be completely meaningless by the end. Though that is one of the better books, with a twist ending that's actually very well set up beforehand in a subtle enough manner that kids at least won't see it coming (at least I didn't, and I'd gotten pretty good at predicting Goosebumps endings by then).
