  • I bought a package of tofu recently. On the package it says that it is organic and non genetically modified. Is this an acceptable product to eat regularly?

  • @stang4lyfe07 My understanding is that tofu is precipitated and not fermented so it does not remove as many antinutrients as fermentation. The phytoestrogens still remain so I try to avoid tofu.

  • Soy now days= GMO

  • @orangeblood307 I agree! Thanks for commenting.

  • Dr. G - When I was in high school 'waaaay back in the 70s, my mother grew in the garden one year some soy beans, not the kind my father-in-law grew on the farm, but bigger, and we ate them as immature seeds. I recall those shells were so stiff and difficult to open, they made little scratches on our fingers. They were crunchy, even after Mother boiled them in salted water. Surely that type of soybean was healthy, am I right on that?

  • @ShushLorraine Toxicity is related to the dose. We can eat a small amount of a toxin and if the dose is low enough, our body can handle it. So even though the soybeans from your own garden seem so healthy, they have the same problems with containing toxic anti nutrients as the commercial soy and require prolonged fermentation to get rid of them. The phytoestrogens in soy are not removed by fermentation, so again a low dose is important, even if fermented.
