Efren Peñaflorida, who started a "pushcart classroom" in the Philippines to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership, has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year.

This kind of thing always splits my mind into two. On one hand, if such amazing, wonderful people like Efren exist, then surely there is a God. On the other hand, what kind of sick, pervert God lets (pre)teen children slaughter each other?
