ES was asked to be shriller and nastier in this recording. She said she was not surprised that the Don had left her!! She preferred the Furtwangler live recording. Me - I like them all.

Giulini's Don Giovanni is a classic recording masterpiece! What more can you say about Schwarzkof ? She was immensely talented, classy & beautiful.; the perfect Mozart & Strauss soprano of her generation. Here she's magnificent & in character as the fiery Elvira, using smoky mezzo di voce for Ah Chi Mi Dice Mai, and elsewhere in the opera, a passionate and intense performance which make her one of the best Elviras on record.

In the Giulini recording of Don Giovanni, Schwarzkopf truly shines. Her Elvira is magnifcent. Her singing is beautiful & passionate; a contrast to the dull and lifeless manner that Sutherland sings Donna Ana. I suppose it's good to have two different sounding sopranos but I much prefer how Schwarzkopf sings Mozart and she truly is the better Mozartian soprano.

@AmericanEvita please don't comment badly about Sutherland (RIP), she was a way better singer than Schwarzkopf

@leoperarm I apologize but I'm not saying Sutherland is a bad singer. She was a glorious soprano and I do love her. Her Donna Anna, though, is not to my liking. I prefer an Anna with a heavier-lyric dramatic style like Edda Moser, Carol Vaness or Anna Tomowa Sintow. Sutherland was better for Lucia, Norma & Lucrezia Borgia. But her Mozart wasn't impressive to me. Sorry. R.I.P. Dame Joan

@AmericanEvita ok, no problem :-) I can see now that your intentions aren't bad, unlike some others, please forgive my rudeness
