Online marketing and social media not getting you the results you want? This video explains why the traditional 'Know, Like & Trust' rules of marketing are no longer enough to drive traffic online. This video explains the 4 online marketing and social media rules that will get you more customers.

Have you heard the phrase, "Know, Like & Trust"?

It's one of those phrases you hear marketers repeat.

They say that to sell stuff your customers first needs to get to know you, like you and what you say, and trust you before they part with their hard-earned cash, right?

Wrong!

"Know, Like & Trust" used to be enough to sell stuff.

But it's not anymore.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube is full of small business owners and entrepreneurs desperately trying to get you to Know Them, Like Them and Trust Them.

But that doesn't mean you take any notice.

If you want to sell stuff online, these are The 4 New Rules Of Online Marketing

1. See

2. Talk

3. Connect

4. Share

First you need to be seen.

It's no good potential customers knowing you, liking you and trusting you, if your marketing message is drowned out by others.

What you need is what my friend Mindy Gibbins-Klein calls a Constant Visibility Strategy.

(Mindy is awesome at helping business owners be seen by writing a book, by the way - Google her).

Next you want to talk to your customers and be talked about.

I find email, video and Facebook to be the best communication tools to talk to thousands of people at once and still make it personal.

It's also important to be talked about (like I just did about Mindy) -- a recommendation from a trusted friend or even a vague Facebook acquaintance is more valuable than telling people yourself that you're great. That's why you need to get testimonials (especially video testimonials) from customers.

Now, you want to connect.

Invite people to Like your Facebook page, Follow you on Twitter, Sign up to your emails, Add a contact on Linked In. Whatever the name for it, it's about getting a connection.

(Oh, and by the way, it's not about the stength of the connection as many marketing 'experts' say... social studies show that it's most often using weak connections - i.e. acquaintances - that lead to new job offers and exciting social activities.)

By the way, if you send an email to your email list and no one sends you a personal reply, you've not connected, you've spammed them... now you can never please all of the people all of the time with your messages, but we can all do better at crafting emails people really value (like this one, I hope ;-)).

Finally, the last rule to selling and influencing online is to Share.

Do people share your Facebook posts and your videos?

Do people comment on them and share their comments on their Wall for others to see them?

You want more of this. Much more.

If no one is sharing, you're probably just broadcasting your sales pitch.

Swap instead to genuinely engaging your prospects with ideas and info they are crying out more.

Help them.

Out-care the competition.

Give your customers so much help, they they will never want to go elsewhere....

It can be a small thing like a personal email, time on the phone, or sending them a gift - free reports, videos, something that's inexpensive to you, but high value to them in the post....

I recently sent my Small Business Niche Marketing Done For You Programme Graduates a book called 'The Thank You Economy by Gary Vaynerchuck (check it out - you'll love it). I loved it so much, I bought a load and posted them out to my clients....

I did it, because it's nice to give things to people you like.... and those customers will now tell their friends about me too.... everyone's a winner.

So forget 'Know, Like & Trust', and remember to sell online, you need:

The 4 New Rules Of Online Marketing

1. See

2. Talk

3. Connect

4. Share

I hope that helps you... let me know what you think and drop me a reply...

Oh, and if you like this, please comment and share...
