  • The Blue Door is in Decherd, Tennessee and it used to be the Duncan Shoe Shop back in the 20's. The Decherd Duncan shoe shop burned on September 8, 1924 and was re-built in 1926. Just a few comments to share with you. My father, James Clark Duncan was born on September 8, 1924 and loves to tell the story about how his father and others fought the fire and moved the equipment out to save it. Then it was re-built in 1926. Look in the bathroom and find the date it was re-built.

Thanks for the information about the building. I recall the shoe shop that was in the building in the 1960's. I've seen the date on the bathroom wall but did not realize that it was the date the building was constructed.

My husband and I are the owners of The Blue Door and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing the story. I do believe your father came in and spoke to my husband, relaying the details of the story to him - which he then shared with me. I've lived in Decherd since I was 11 years old and am amazed at all of the history I'm just now learning about this little town of ours.
