Nuisance 911 calls are a growing concern. Non-emergent calls delay the response to real emergencies. If uncertain whether a call is an emergency or not, it is always better to dial 911. Common medical emergencies include: chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden dizziness, severe injury, drug overdose, intense feelings of heat or cold, sudden weakness, seizures, etc.

"911: For Emergencies Only" Lyrics
Lyrics by Jocelyn Fischer

If someone is hurt or in alert
Or a fire is raging around
You see a crime that could stop in time
911 is for emergencies

If asking for info you really should know
Call non-emergency number
Please keep the lines free for real emergencies
911 is for calamities

911, 911
Please call us if life-threatening
911, 911
Emergency help with a ring

Please be respectful to 911
Then we can help the true victims

  • Sorry shedininja001, I think I might have accidentally deleted your comment, but to answer your questionin many areas, abusing the 911 system with a false call or calling for a ridiculous reason, can get someone arrested and possibly jail time.

  • I wish the staff at all the nursing homes would watch this. It's beyond me why I have to get out of bed at 0300 hrs. for someone who has been nauseated for 3 days.

  • Poor emergency personnel! Someone called 911 to try and set up a date? The next thing that is frustrating is when the commercial fire alarms go off and it was a fault in the system or someone bumped a fire escape door.

  • Catchy song. :)

  • TRUE it happens everywhere

Here in Mexico almost every call is fake

  • So true!

Here in Germany they even called 112 (our "911") to order a Pizza ....

Insane in the membrane is all I can say!!
