The Lego 9493 X-Wing Starfighter was one of few starfighters that made up the backbone of the Rebel Alliance's navy. The wings of the ship would open up in an X, making the starfighter something of an icon in the galaxy. It was easily recognizable because of this, and for some, was a symbol of hope. There were several variants of the ship, but the most used version was the T-65 X-Wing starfighter. It was well known for its excellent performance in battle and its flexibility as a fighter, primary assault fighter, an escort, and more. The ship flew with its wings folded, but in combat they would open up to allow each of the mounted blaster cannons greater spread coverage. The T-65 was equipped with four Taim and Bak laser cannons and two Krupx MG7 proton torpedo launchers. It could be manned by one pilot, but an astromech often accompanied the pilot to make repairs and aid te pilot in navigating through territory. One of the fighter's unique features was its ability to shift into different firing modes; dual fire, quad fire and shutter fire. Dual fire allowed the pilot to fire blasts from each pair of laser cannons, with the top and bottom pairs alternating. Quad fire allowed the fighter to fire off all four laser cannons simultaneously. Shutter fire allowed the pilot to rapidly fire off each of the four laser cannons in an alternating fashion.
The Lego 9492 TIE Fighter was the standard starfighter used by the Galactic Empire. They were delicate ships that offered very little safety to the pilot in the event of a crash or system failure; it lacked even a life support system, which forced its pilots to wear helmets that had such systems attached. The TIE fighter was not armed with any shielding devices or a hyperdrive. However, due to its minimalist build, the ship was extremely easy to control and was low maintenence. This also contributed to its low cost. Thousands of the fighter were produced and put into service. What the ship lacked in constitution, it made up for in its speed and vast numbers.
