OSATv TouchLine -- 90 Marco Reda

OSATv TouchLine host, Anthony Totera, interviews Marco Reda the Woodbridge, Ontario, native and Canadian soccer player who currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps in the USL First Division, on youth soccer and player development in Ontario, his experience playing for Ontario Cup Champions Woodbridge Strikers with future professionals Paul Stalteri, Jason Bent and Jim Brennan, training to game ratios, facilities, career options and player development road maps then and now as well as the state of coaching and the need for clubs to engage and support professional coaches for the betterment of the game in Ontario and Canada. Reda played college soccer at Winthrop University in 1996 and 1997. He signed for the Toronto Lynx in 1998 and established himself there as one of the best defenders in the A-League, helping the Lynx reach the playoff semifinals in 2000. Reda played for the Lynx for five years before being transferred to Sogndal in 2002 where he played for for three years and became a fan favourite. In 2005, he was transferred to Aalborg of the Danish Superliga because Sogndal were relegated. Reda played for Aalborg for a year and a half before being released. In 2006 Reda re-signed with his old team Sogndal to help them win back promotion to the top flight, but he was acquired by Toronto FC in November 2006. Along with Chris Pozniak, Adam Braz and Jim Brennan, Reda formed a 'Canadian Shield' of Canadian defenders for the MLS team's inaugural season. A combination of injuries and inconsistent play led to only Brennan remaining with the team for its second year and Reda was released by Toronto in November 2007. In March 2008, Reda signed with the Charleston Battery and in February, 2009, he signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Reda has earned four caps for the Canadian national soccer team, all under former head coach Frank Yallop.
