On March 2nd the HIV Community lost and important activist, Shelton Jackson passed away at age 31.

Shelton Jackson (Feb 4, 1978 - March 2, 2009)

Born and raised in the ruff streets of Newark, New Jersey, Shelton S. Jackson managed to escape the crime and violence of the streets through education and in the eighth grade his world was changed when he was introduced to poetry. Jackson, used this new medium to express his trails of coming out of the closet, falling in love at first sight with a man, becoming HIV positive for that love, and finally being reborn to do what he describes as Gods will. Jackson has published two books of poetry on his journey of acceptance. Jackson now still resides in Newark, NJ where he has started his own publishing company, SSJ Publishing, Inc. Through SSJ, Jackson hopes to publish other authors whose personal truth will serve as a beacon of hope for others. Jackson believes that SSJ Publishing is the next step in healing literature that will, Take Truth to the Next Level-Reality.

  • Very nice tribute Justin. I met Shelton but did not know him well. I am so touched by the outpouring of love from the community. Thank you!

  • This caught me off guard...I'm very familiar with Shelton & his work. He will be missed. His tenure in the fight against HIV/AIDS will always be with me, as I know it will with you. Continue to blaze trails during this journey my friend. **TRAV**

  • Justin - a beautiful tribute to what seemed like a courageous/ generous man .......we are all diminished by so much loss!.....Backatwon

  • very good tribute, i didn't know him, but i don't want to say he lost the battle..you just keep educating and making us aware...let his work live on through you. Love you Justin!

  • Shelton would want you to educate yourself with the full knowledge about hiv testing and treatment by asking really good questions and not having to take hiv drugs that are based on science that does not compute and made by drug companies with clear ties to nazis. At least Shelton no longer has to deal with the evil on this planet. May his soul rest in peace now.
