In the remote California ghost town of Death Valley Junction (pop 10) stands the Amargosa Opera House, where for the past 33 years former New York dancer and artist Marta Becket has performed her own ballets in the theater she spent seven years handpainting with stunning murals. For Becket, the creative life is an obstacle course of self-doubt, criticism and abandonment—a high price to pay in the pursuit of self-expression.

  • I watched this movie last night on Netflix "Watch Instantly", and it's one of the most unusual and intriguing stories about Marta Becket, a NYC ballet dancer, mime, and painter who settled in a tiny Death Valley town and found a connection and an outlet. A great story well told!

  • haha i like and live in Amargosa :)

  • Amargosa is the name of the place. I'm not sure why they called it that originally, but many businesses in a town are called after the town's name so in Amargosa there's the Amargosa Opera House, where Beautiful Art happened and there for a state of mind full of beauty ... an "Amargosa" state of mind -even if it sounds weird in Spanish- :o) Nothing to do with the meaning of the word, but with the Place. Lucky it didnt happen in a town like Alameda de las Pulgas or Manteca CA which they do exist.

  • that state of mind is amargosa???

    ....amargosa means bitter...

so she has to be bitter?

    im confused...

when did this movie come out??

  • The music is by Randy Miller and the score is from the film "Dream Rider". This song is out of print, so it you find it, please let us know where.

  • what is the music used in this trailer?
