Go inside an immersion school where American schoolchildren are taught social studies, math, and science entirely in Chinese. The innovative experiment produces bilingual achievers as fluent in Chinese as in English.

  • @bocabeth Hearing "takes away the joy of being a child" is boring.

  • I'm Chinese yet some of them speak better than me

  • @bocabeth: You're wrong. I was an Ojibwe immersion teacher for pre-school kids. They played just as they would in English. They had "happiness and delight" on their faces often.

  • so here's the real issue/question: How do we do this with adults?

  • I feel immersion at an early age takes away from the joy of being a child. Do you see happiness & delight on any of the faces of these young children in this immersion classroom? NO!

Experts today agree that learning two languages side by side can be done much more effectively than immersion and with higher self esteem and long term retention.

As a bilingual educator never have I felt that I was talking to myself and never has it taken one child 2 months to 'get it.'

    I choose bilingual!
