Mike D, MCA, DJ Hurricane and Jam Master Jay introduce Barry Sobel. I guess this is from 1987. Either that or '86.

  • What race? People are people period

  • @Hunkola shut up

  • @Hunkola ??? asians (and i think whites if im not mistaken) have actually WON titles at the apollo...

  • Apollo crowd = RACIST against whites, Asians, Latinos

  • MCA is hiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!!!

  • @slugworth28 You said it quite perfectly. I think it just may be that. Taking a gamble, but , damn, it boggles my mind that they were game for it, you know what I mean and nobody else, I mean, you notice that right? They're the only ones and I still want to know what were those early rap songs they did before a black hip hop audience in New York were? There are videos where it seems they are performing in Latin Quarters in New York but it's a montage within a music video.

  • @Khultan possibly true...but the beastie boys were already a band (punk) they just took a gamble and it paid off... but id say it was more down to luc k as well... and someone like russell simmons (def jam) taking a chance. i think pete nice was around at the time... and everlast was picked up by rhyme syndicate in LA around 89.

  • Typical racism you'd expect from an Apollo crowd. No cheers due to skin color.... tsk tsk.

  • If you check their book, beastie boys anthology: sounds of science. If you look at their early photos, not one of their other peers tried to be curious and try rapping? Just Adam H., Adam Y., and Michael D. only?!? Damn. That's baffling. Out of 20, 000 New York City kids in 1980, 81, 82, just three New York city Hebrew kids tried it????
