99% of all blocks are temporary. Consider yourself "grounded".

The amount of comments that get deleted is virtually zero. Comment deletion is basically restricted to obvious spam, personal information, or advocating violence. I DO NOT DELETE COMMENTS OF PEOPLE I AM ACTUALLY ARGUING WITH.

Being blocked from a particular channel does NOT violate your "free speech" rights because YOU STILL HAVE YOUR CHANNEL AND CAN POST ALL OF THE VIDEOS YOU WANT.

A quick glance on any of my videos will demonstrate that I don't block people JUST for disagreeing with me. Engaging with "dissent" is part of my primary motivation here.

I have also embraced a tactic outlined by FakeSagan (whose methods and positions I tend to disagree with):
If I see you say something REALLY stupid and/or hateful on another channel, I just might take the time to block you before you even make it over to my channel. If I "pre_blocked" you, you definitely earned it. But that will also be temporary as outlined in the video.

  • I'm with ya on this, Rabid! When I first started my channel, I had decided to let 'anyone say anything', but quickly realized that trolls were filing in, leaving their crap all over my vids. If someone wishes to discuss or debate - fine - but they certainly have no right to hijack my comments sections with their mindless preaching......

  • I cheerfully block people who are regularly rude or abusive. As far as I'm concerned, free speech doesn't mean any idiot has the right to stifle debate, i.e. everyone else's right to free speech.

  • Phil Plait Ph.D. President of the JREF and the person behind Bad Astronomy has only of rule for commenters:

    "Do not be a jerk."

  • hahaha, yeah you're right.

  • @r-ape : personally i can't think of anything funnier than some guy filling a comments section with mindless smut and psychotic insults. but that's me. thanks for stating your policies on the matter.

  • What's more ironic is that they're the ones usually trying to stifle it.

  • It's quite funny because the people who complain about their lack of free speech generally only desire it to spout abuse in any given direction.

  • lol fair point.

    you missed "bad tactic"

maybe it works better if you watch several Ape vids or one of his ~10 minute ones.

  • two sips

    i'm waaasted mooxim
