Isabelle Aubret performing "Un Premier Amour" ("A First Love"), the French entry at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest.

France's 3rd win in 5 years may sound too much. but this entry simply deserved it hands down! Although I personally prefer the studio version, whose sparer, subtler arrangement gets more under your skin, this is still a magical, entrancing melody beautifully sung by Isabelle, who really magnetizes the camera. Six years later, in 1968, she'd return to the contest with another ESC classic, "La Source", which came quite close to giving her a 2nd victory (in eventually ranked 3rd).

  • This song was never going to be one of my favourites from 62 or amongst the winners. And I like La Source much more. But Tasos, I think this live performance exceeds tremendously the studio version.

  • Well, it's all a matter of opinion, isn't it? Maybe it's the fact that the studio version was the first one I heard that makes me prefer its more subtle touch - not, of course, that there's anything wrong with Francj Purcel's live arrangement or, even more so, with Isabelle's performance! And, btw, based on what I perceive your taste to be, I'd have thought you'd like this much more than you do.

  • très très jolie chanson d’Isabelle Aubret

  • Truly wonderful. Gorgeous song.

There should be a girl in an open-topped sports car drivin round a mountain road, with her chiffon scarf flowing behind her. Lol.

SO evocative of those 60's film themes. Beautifully sung. Still love it.

  • nice violine melody in the background, so missing to day.

  • I like the song here but the version with the Latin Jazz Upright Bass is awesome!

And the way it starts mixing piano keys with trompets at the same time.......

    Best song of 1962!

  • @ayer20 I am sorry to dissapoint you........ But 1963 song, Dansevise by Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann....

Still gives me goose bunks when I hear it......

Please listen to it very carefully and you'll hear what I am talking about!

That song is one of a kind!

  • C'est super!

  • much prefer the string heavy studio version without that annoying latin arrangement
