I for one DO NOT want a collective deciding my fate. I would rather decide for myself, and I think most people would rather have that choice be their own. I think Ben Franklin said it best when he said democracy is 3 wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner. Direct democracy doesn't work for a myriad of reasons, like most people don't have time to become knowledgeable enough to vote wisely on every bill. Do we really want unwise votes deciding our fate? This is why we elect representatives.
