In the Scottish 'New Town' of Cumbernauld, Gregory, a school footballer, becomes aware of...girls! Life is ok for Gregory - even when he loses his star position in the football team to gorgeous Dorothy of 5A.
Demoted to goalkeeper, he now has time to revel in her triumphs on the field and to dream of the possibilities that just may lie ahead - off the field. But his interest is not entirely reciprocated.
Will he survive a rebuff? Can his friends cure him of his terrible infatuation? Will he score with Dorothy? Will he score at all? Who's going to be Gregory's Girl?
Gregory's Girl - released in 1981 - was the second film written and directed by Bill Forsyth, (using many of the cast who had appeared in 'That Sinking Feeling', screened the previous year).
Gregorys Girl is 1 of the most brilliant flims ever.

If this movie is an accurate reflection of Scottish culture, I'd say one thing the Scotts have in common with Americans is that when it comes to dating and relationships, the women are definitely in charge. I must say though, that the young Scottish babes are far more gentle about saying no to guys like Gregory (and me at that age)--they just pass them off to whichever of their friends IS interested!
