@RazorCell7 The town had been dumping their trash in a mine and called local firefighters to incinerate it. They didn't put out the fire and it spread through the mines under the town growing in intensity, sucking in oxygen from above and spewing out fumes.

It started in 1962 and is estimated to continue burning for another 250 years.

This fire is chicken feed to the fire that has been burning underground for over 5500 years.....
Outside a small town called Wingen in New South Wales, Australia. believed to have been started by a bush fire or lightening strike that set the coal seam on fire...
