@sadlycan What i recommend is sticking to the Marine Corps and shooting to get into a MSOB (Marine Spec Op Battalion). They are excruciatingly exclusive, obtain the highest amount of training, and are funded by SOCOM so they don't get the same problems FORECON does. Most of MSOR (the regiment) is made up of Force Recon Marines who already have undergone years of training, and they still put them through another 2 years in ITC and other advanced schools. The best of the best of the best, for sure
@sadlycan In order to get into a tier 1 unit you would have to switch branches into either Delta or DEVGRU, but i don't recommend it as it's highly overrated. The biggest reason they are so secretive is because unlike counter-insurgency methods, if the enemy were to learn our counter-terrorist tactics it would put our country as a whole at risk, though DEVGRU never seems to have a problem with bragging about their missions like cocky 12 year olds i've seen.
@sadlycan Unfortunately, because only recently the Marine Corps agreed to enter in to USSOCOM because of a dumb ass philosophy of "Marines only support marines", the USMC hasn't had time to assemble a tier 1 counter-terrorist unit. It's actually only been since 2009 that MARSOC was completely established and it still isn't technically an actual MOS yet. MARSOC, along with FORCON, both however specialize in counter-terrorism, but it isn't apart of their primary role.
@oOChaosWolfOo hello, i apologize for asking you this question after you made this comment months ago but im going to be leaving for basic in the marine corps in october and i was wondering if there was a tier one detachment inside the corps, Im going into the marine security forces, and I was thinking of going for MARSOC or Force Recon like my force which my father and brother were in
These two units, "Delta" and "DEVRGU" (the ladder being formerly known as SEAL team 6) are combat units that specialize in counter-terrorism as opposed to counter-insurgency, like Tier 2 units. Units classified as Tier 1 are kept much more secretive, and have very small numbers amongst their ranks to inhibit this. The reason being that Tier 1 requires all their tactics to be kept secret in order for these units to work. They are handpicked to keep things on the down-low, other's mistake this.
Unlike what many are misguided to believe, you can volunteer for MARSOC just like any other SOF unit, such as the Army's 75th (Rangers), Navy's Sea, Air, Land (SEALs), Army Special Forces (Green Beret) / SF Divers, Air Force Pararescue, Marine Recon Bn, and anything else fielded as or under Tier 2 unit class of operations. What many confuse these units with is Tier 1 units such as the Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Group - Delta (1st SFOD-D) and Navy's Development Group, DEVGRU
Interesting how everybody all of a sudden becomes a military expert when referencing their favorite units. MARSOC, that's Marine Special Operations Command, is the United States Marine Corps Special Operations Force that works under SOCOM, that's Special Operations Command. They are primarily a direct action force, not to be confused with Force Reconnaissance which is a direct action capable reconnaissance unit that specializes in deep reconnaissance. MARSOC and FORECON are both Tier 2 units.
