Well, most of western nations think that. But its not your fault... most of it is steaming from post war propaganda, wich shaped the western point of view. Simply, US government didn't want to upset Stalin so history was reported like there is no Poland after 1939. History is written by the winning side. And we lost. First against nazis then against soviet doctrine and delusion of allies.

@TheSanityInspector And we think about America as a poorly educated, phony, and cocky deviants, who have been so much affraid of soviet union that let them established own government. America knew wery well that Poland fought during WWII until last day. Anyway its long subject, and i think that you americans are irreformable.

I had never heard of this naval encounter, thanks for posting. In America, we think of Poland as the helpless victim of the Nazis. It is always good to hear how Polish units fought back in the West. Thanks again.

Some of us Americans know the awful history of what happened to Poland in the '40's, from the Nazi-Soviet invasion to the participation of Polish troops in the Soviet and Allied attacks on the Nazis. Poles were sent on suicide missions by the Russians; and the Poles fought on land, sea, and air with the allies only to be betrayed when their country was handed over to the Soviet bloc. Poland is unique in having suffered so much only to be betrayed by everyone. Wolna Polska!
