  • Yes, a cover band. But a cover band that loves the music and feels able to express it in it's many personalities for you live. If you don't appreciate that, I would suggest you stay home when they come to your town. Oh and let me rate the video. Poor quality and distant. (I'm pointing my thumb down)

  • it was a table / sitdown type venue, the only place i could sit was the bar, which was too far away.

  • And by the way, no musician can truly be replaced, everyone ahs their own thing and finger print. Are they trying to replace them?

They are bringing great music to people who may have never heard it prior. That's a great thing and this society needs some good stuff with all the absolute crap that is out there! Yes, now I'm the critic now, but you know it;'s true, lol!!!!!!!!

  • I can't believe people are upset these guys are trying to keep the music alive. It's ridiculous!

Also remember, these guys do other things and aren't "living Mahavishnu" every day. They do a great job walking in and doing these gigs.

And what's up with the guy who "thinks" he knows what John McLaughlin thinks? You've spoken to him?

And, have you created some ground breaking music yourself?

So many critics, so many assholes...

  • Oh and IF you get a chance to see them live look for the guy behind you staring at you eat your hat. It will be me.

  • Well all the comments seem to be directed at Mahavishnu Project as a band and their audacity to play Mahavishnu Orchestra music when you would rather their live music die in your collective memories. I am a Mahavishnu Orchestra fan since 1976 and I have seen Mahavishnu Project twice and I can tell you the shows I saw were great! Was it Mahavishnu Orchestra? No. These players already have many voices in the music industry and choose to play this music live for others to enjoy.

  • I saw the original rendition of Journey (instrumental days) and they opened up for MO II, and they did their own rendition of Dance of Maya. While it was fun to watch and they are great players, it wasn't the same, but still enjoyable.

MO II came out and just kicked the proverbial buttocks.

The Tubes opened up the show, but they got booed off stage for throwing stale bread into the audience. LOL.

  • Also, John himself has no substitute. Narada actually came VERY close when he played the same songs as the original band. Stu Goldberg came VERY close to Jan's level in the same band and Ralph Armstrong is a monster bassist.

  • I have the same feeling. It's fun to see someone resurrect this music but to me the original was so centered on Cobham's power that its absence here is really a loss. I love different interpretations of things but I'd almost want to see this band go further in some way (more power, faster, crazier, more subversive...) and they really don't - instead, they are always just "almost" there. Still great players and if they were doing only original material I'd undoubtedly love it.

  • The drums sound hard rock.

Isn't this a jazz rock band?

Why do engineers have no clue today?
