In a well-kept plaza of Opon, one of the two towns on Cebu, Mactan Island, stands an inspiring monument in honor of Lapulapu, considered the first Filipino to have repelled European aggression and a memorial of Ferdinand Magellan, the "Dioscoverer" of the Philippines, who was killed by Lapulapu.

  • Back then Sugbo which now known as Cebu was already a bustling trade port, trading goods with Saudi Arabia, Cambodia &etc. Ferdinand Magellan was a late arrival. Traders back then used to say there is an island in the south pacific called sugbo/cebu. Lapu- Lapu was 100% Sugboanon/Cebuano/Bisaya/Filipino. Cebu is the oldest city in the country. The Philippines was named after king philip of spain by the second expedession led by Miguel Lopez de legaspi in 1565. 44 years after magellan.

  • @RalfyBebe just wondering what the Philippines had to trade with Saudi Arabia 500 years ago, coconuts !?! And then in that time there was also no SAUDI ARABIA (and no Saudi OIL)?
